the photographer

Hi! I'm Sarah Tundermann, the portrait and wedding photographer behind Blue Photography. My step-father gave me my first DSL camera in 2006 and I had a hard time being without ever since. While I've never taken a photography class in my life, I’m trained as a lighting designer for theatre, which helps me stand out in capturing the uniqueness of you and your story in every image. Capturing the spirit and stories of people is what gets me up in the morning.

You’ll never hear me say, “Cheese!” unless I’m offering you a tasty snack. I believe that a genuine smile is one of the best things in the world, but sometimes the perfect photo doesn’t need one. You won’t find me carting a tripod, as I’m often bending, twisting, and crawling to snatch that perfect photo. I adore working outside and shot with natural light whenever possible.

  • "Blue" has been a nickname of mine since high school due to an abundance of Sarahs and my frequently blue hair
  • I grew up in Colorado, England, and New England
  • If you bring me snacks you'll pretty much be my best friend
  • I took up hand embroidery when I was 30 years old
  • Jinx Monsoon is my dog; she's the greatest
  • I take my coffee with cream and my whiskey straight
  • My carnivorous pitcher plant is thriving, but I tend to kill succulents and cacti
  • I have a growing collection of dinosaurs or skulls hidden throughout my home
  • In addition to being a photographer, I'm a lighting and projection designer

Getting to know the people I photograph is tremendously important to me. I love learning as much as I can about everyone I shoot.  As a photographer, I believe I can capture you and your story way better as a friend than as a stranger telling you to stand-there-and-smile. If all this sounds like your kind of photographer I’d love to get together over a coffee (or a cocktail) so I can get to you know better…
