Behind the Lens | About Photographer

Hi, I’m Sarah. I’m a bi-coastal portrait and wedding photographer. Blue, my nickname, stems from a stint of eight years with blue hair. My stepfather gave me my first DSLR camera in 2006. My niece Sammi Jae is the greatest freakin’ kid in the world. And I’m quite fond of children’s books, smokey single-malts, good coffee, colourful socks, and my delightful beast of a kitten named Rorschach.

I pride myself on my narrative-based photographs. Capturing the stories of the people I work with is what gets me up in the morning. I’m trained as a lighting designer for theatre, which gives me a unique persuasion towards storytelling to capture the uniqueness of you and your story in every image. You’ll never hear me say, “Cheese!” unless I’m offering a tasty snack. I believe that a genuine smiles is one of the best things in the world, but sometimes the perfect photo doesn’t need one. You won’t typically find me carting a tripod, as I’m often bending, twisting, and crawling to capture the best of you in a photograph. I adore working outside and with natural light.

I want every session to be fun and easy. But at the end of the day, my goal is to provide you with completely one-of-a-kind piece of timeless artwork: a story frozen in time that you will cherish for always. When you look at your photographs I want you to feel your wedding day, or your child’s first steps, not just see them. If you think I’d be a good fit to capture your day, please don’t hesitate to say hello to me!

I’m currently bouncing between the east and west coasts, but I love love love to go where the wind takes me, especially if it means I get to share the next adventure with you. Give me a shout if you’d like me to drop in for a session while I’m in your city. If you’re curious to to see the lighting design half of my life, please pop over to my website and take a gander!
